Artwork Investigation: Reflection

Artwork Investigation

The assignment of creating 10 different pieces in just one week was very challenging for me to say the least.  I am generally more of a perfectionist and focus on the details which make for slow progress. This assignment forced me to move quickly and draw whatever was on my mind at the time. This created some very interesting artwork. Another thing that I liked about this investigation was the survey. It was really interesting to see how people who were not involved in art responded compared to those that were in art. The questionnaire lead me to think about how I could create work and get a message across without using just illustrations. Through this questionnaire I also learned to continue the placement of objects on the paper using the rule of thirds and how using different colors can help convey different moods. Another aspect that was evident among all of my artwork was the attention to detail which in some cases can be a bad thing. This hung me up at some points because it was slowing me down but once I got past the details and tried to create my own unique image I became much quicker in my drawings. Something I do need to improve on though is making my drawings less illustrative and more artistic and creative. I need to learn how to balance abstract and contemporary work to make a more interesting image that people have to look deeper into to discover the meaning.
